The UN refugee agency is urging dialogue to prevent further violence in Arakan State following clashes between displaced Muslims and authorities last Friday. The clashes outside the state capital Sittwe left one person dead and 10 injured, the UNHCR reported. “UNHCR is reiterating its call for peaceful dialogue and confidence building between the IDPs and government,” UNHCR spokesman Adrian Edwards told a news briefing in Geneva, according to a statement posted Tuesday. The statement after a UN rapporteur on human rights arrived in Arakan State on Monday to assess the human rights situation.
