Thailand’s former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has canceled a planned trip to the Burmese border town of Tachilek next weekend, but will still meet with Burmese President Thein Sein in Naypyidaw on Thursday, according to a report by The Bangkok Post. An associate of the ousted Thai leader said the trip to Tachilek was called off because of safety concerns, after rumors began circulating that there was a plot to assassinate him in the town, near Mae Sai in Thailand’s Chiang Rai Province. Thein Sein is expected to visit Thailand this week before returning from a regional summit in Laos.
