A court in Kawthaung in southern Burma sentenced two Thai nationals to lengthy prison terms on Tuesday for encroaching on Burmese territory and possession of drugs and weapons, The Bangkok Post reported. The accused, a man and a woman, received sentences of 18 years and six months and 15 years, respectively. They are among nine Thai detainees still imprisoned after the arrest of 92 people on July 4 for illegal entry, encroachment on Burma territory and illegally clearing land. Thailand’s Foreign Ministry said it would seek clemency for the pair.
