Thai authorities have captured a Burmese national accused of trafficking about 700 people from Burma into Thailand and murdering dozens of others, the Chiangrai Times reports. Ko Myo allegedly led a trafficking network for more than a decade, forcing trafficked Burmese to work in the Thai fishing industry. The arrest followed the capture of two of Ko Myo’s alleged subordinates within the operation’s leadership, who were also captured this week. The traffickers are accused of having killed an estimated 40 people who refused to be sold into slavery on Thai fishing vessels over the years.
