Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is planning to meet politicians from the ruling Pheu Thai party and supporters in the Burmese border town of Tachilek, according to a report by The Bangkok Post. The visit to Tachilek, located opposite Mae Sai District in Thailand’s Chiang Rai Province, is set for early next month, the report said, citing unnamed sources. Thaksin was ousted by a military coup in September 2006 and subsequently went into self-imposed exile to escape prosecution on corruption charges. His sister, Yingluck Shinawatra, was elected prime minister last year.
