OIC to Hold Talks on Rohingya Issue

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will hold a foreign ministerial meeting in Djibouti next week to discuss how to address the continuing persecution of Muslims in Burma’s Arakan State, according to the Turkish daily Today’s Zaman. In August, the humanitarian crisis in Arakan following communal clashes between Buddhists and Muslims was a focus of talks at an OIC summit in Mecca. The organization decided to appoint a special envoy for the issue and had received permission to provide direct assistance, but was later rebuffed by the Burmese government following protests.
