The Norwegian-backed Myanmar Peace Support Initiative (MPSI) will likely come to a close early this year, the Democratic Voice of Burma (DVB) reports. The multimillion dollar initiative began at the request of the Burma government in 2012 to support the peace process with various ethnic armed groups, but has faced criticism for allegedly prioritizing economic development over political dialogue. An internal review of the MPSI is under way, DVB reports, citing the initiative’s lead consultant, who said the review would likely find that there is no “added value” in continuing the initiative’s work, which he said had been a success.
