The Nippon Foundation, a Japanese nonprofit, will spend US$11 million to build schools in Shan State and Arakan State, Eleven Myanmar reported Saturday. The project will be implemented from 2013 to 2018 in collaboration with Burma’s border affairs ministry and Bridge Asia Japan, another nonprofit, the news agency reported. The project comes as Burma’s government undertakes a comprehensive review of the country’s education system to identify areas for reform, after decades of low education funding by the former military regime.
