Lift All Western Sanctions on Burma, Russia Says

All remaining western sanctions against Burma should be lifted in the light of the country’s ongoing political reforms, Russian Foreign Minister Sergie Lavrov said during a visit to Burma on Wednesday, US news agency UPI reports. “There is no justification for any kind of sanctions under the current conditions,” he was quoted as saying. Lavrov met his Burmese counterpart Wunna Maung Lwin in Naypyidaw and they agreed to set up a panel to assess future economic coordination between their countries. Last year, the sanctions on western investments in Burma were lifted following recent reforms but a number of restrictions on doing business in the country remain in place.

One Response to Lift All Western Sanctions on Burma, Russia Says
