South Korean Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Kim Sung-hwan will meet with his Burmese counterpart Wunna Maung Lwin on Wednesday to discuss ways to bolster bilateral ties. Resumption of financial assistance, trade and North Korea will be at the top of the agenda, a Korean Foreign Minister official was quoted by The Korea Times as saying. The trip has raised controversy in South Korea because Burma is still suspected of arranging an arms deal with North Korea. Kim, who will also meet President Thein Sein, is due to return to Seoul on Thursday.
