The Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) will hold another round of negotiations with the Burmese government’s peace delegation in Ruili, a border town in China’s Yunnan Province, on Oct. 30-31, according to brokers close to both sides. The group recently rejected the government’s invitation to meet in Naypyidaw. The KIO finally agreed to meet with the government delegation in Ruili because it is a neutral venue, under the control of neither the government nor the KIO. The two sides have met several times since fighting started last June, but have yet to reach an agreement.
