PT Semen Gresik, a leading Indonesian cement maker, says it plans to build a new plant in Burma by the end of 2013, according to a report by The Jakarta Post. The company’s president, Dwi Soetjipto said on Tuesday that it is seeking local partners in Burma to form a joint venture. The company is just the latest cement manufacturer to show interest in the Burmese market. In early December, Thailand’s Siam Cement Group announced plans to move its main manufacturing base to Burma. The move comes amid expectations of a building boom in Burma, as the country strives to catch up with neighbors.
