India’s Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) says it will export sonar technology to Burma, according to a report by The Hindu newspaper. “We’ve attained total indigenization in sonars and radars. Our ship-borne sonars are now being exported to Myanmar,” said Avinash Chander, the DRDO’s scientific advisor to the Indian Defense Ministry. The move was described as a “groundbreaking initiative” and part of the agency’s “strong intent to export military products to friendly nations.” The report says that Burma inked a deal with Bharat Electronics for procurement of three hull-mounted sonar units developed by the DRDO’s Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory earlier this year.
