Retired Vice Snr-Gen Maung Aye, who occupied the number two spot in the former military junta that ruled Burma until last year, was admitted to a military hospital in Naypyidaw on Sunday, according to a report by The Voice journal. The Rangoon-based weekly said that Maung Aye was taken to the hospital’s emergency ward after suffering from an undisclosed illness. Other sources suggested that Maung Aye, 74, had a stroke. During his time in power, he was known as a heavy drinker who also liked to play golf.
