Wild elephants have been destroying crops and homes in several villages in Rangoon Division’s Tike Kyi Township, Mizzima reports. The elephants have been struggling to find food in their shrinking forest habitats and groups of up to 15 animals have now resorted to raiding village farms. “A few elephants used to come foraging for food at nighttime, but now herds of 10 to 15 are coming during the day,” a local farmer from Kyauk Pyin Tha village was quoted as saying. The farmer said 20 homes in his village had been destroyed by the animals, adding that three villagers were killed by rampaging elephants last year.
