International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde said during her visit to Burma this weekend that the government’s economic development plans should focus on inclusive growth that tackles widespread poverty, AFP reports. “As Myanmar opens up and expands, it needs the structural foundations of a modern economy,” she said in a speech, adding that the surge in foreign investments that Burma is experiencing as a result of government reforms should be used for poverty eradication. “The next step is to build on these gains and take the path of sustained, strong, and inclusive growth to lower poverty and lift the prospects of everyone,” Lagarde said.
