Turkey’s Foreign Ministry released a statement on Monday urging Burma to respect the rights of minorities, according to Today’s Zaman, a Turkish daily. The statement was released after Aung Min, the Burmese government’s chief negotiator with ethnic armed groups, told the UN that his country is willing to make “all necessary compromises” to broker peace with ethnic minority rebel groups. However, this was not likely in reference to the Rohingya of Arakan State, a group that has been championed in the Muslim world, but which is not recognized by Burma as one of its minorities.
