Burma is the only one of Thailand’s neighbors that currently enjoys a trade surplus with the Kingdom, according to a report by Malaysia’s state-run Bernama news agency. In the first eight months of 2013, Thailand posted a trade surplus of 130.070 billion baht (US $4.16 billion) against Malaysia, Laos and Cambodia but recorded a deficit of 23.161 billion baht ($740 million) against Burma. In August alone, the trade deficit with Burma was 3.446 billion baht ($110 million), owing chiefly to Thailand’s energy imports.
