Finnish Nobel Peace Prize laureate Martti Ahtisaari said Burma’s government stands a chance of winning the world’s most prestigious prize if it can successfully carry out it democratic reforms. Ahtisaari made the remark after meeting in Helsinki with Burmese President Thein Sein, who is currently on a five-nation, 12-day tour of Europe. Finnish President Sauli Niinistö also announced a 6.5 million-euro (US $8.4 million) aid package for Burma during the visit. “Finland is willing to reach out” to Burma, Niinistoe said at a joint press conference with the former general.
