Position Title: Reporter (English Section) – The Irrawaddy
Applicants should have at least three years of proven experience in reporting and writing feature stories in English.
Successful candidates will be able to express ideas and shape stories concisely for an online readership; be familiar with working to same-day deadlines; know how to leverage social media to enhance their reporting; and possess a high level of awareness of Myanmar’s politics, economy and culture.
Candidates should also be well versed in using infographic tools to present their stories in the form of interactive maps and charts, as well as the use of smartphone cameras for work purposes.

Organizational Background
The Irrawaddy is an independent non-partisan Burmese digital media company established in Thailand in 1993. It has credible domestic and international standing amongst its Burmese and English audiences. It publishes news, articles, views, analysis, editorial discussions, video-reports, and photo-essays. Since January 2016, the Irrawaddy has switched to digital media platforms in Burmese and English languages, like websites, FB pages, news apps, secure mobile apps, YouTube, Twitter (English) and daily e-news digest (Burmese and English).
Job Overview
The Irrawaddy is seeking a Projects Director to manage project development and management – develop media project proposals; regular research on emerging funding opportunities, oversee project monitoring, evaluation, and learning; and write project reports for donors and partners.
Roles and Responsibilities
• Develop project proposals to submit to donors in accordance with donor’s guidelines
• Identify resource requirements, budget preparation, and arrange allocation for the organization
• Track and prepare project reports according to the relevant requirements including monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL)
• To lead the project team and coordinate all current projects with other relevant departments
• Oversee project monitoring and documentation of the progress of all current projects
• Manage and organize any changes in project scope, schedule, and budget
• Monitor and research on emerging funding opportunities and grants for media work from various donors and funding programs in the region
• Represent IRW in stakeholders’ meetings and form strategic and friendly partnerships with donors and partners
• Perform other activities as may be assigned by the CEO and cooperate with Directors to keep activities and procedures running smoothly for project management and development tasks as required
Qualifications/Requirements
• At least 10 years of senior-level management experience
• Excellent English language fluency
• High-level writing skills, including proposal and report writing experience
• Good communication skills, donors relations, and project coordination
• Strong analytical skills to analyze data and issues for project proposal development and reporting
• Proficient computer skills, especially MS Project and MS Office
• Willingness to be flexible about working schedule
• Ability to work within tight deadlines and under pressure, as well as the ability to multi-tasking
• Knowledge and awareness of the media group operation
• Knowledge and experience of Myanmar’s political and socio-economic context and/or the media industry in Myanmar/Region
