RANGOON — The company that operated a bus that crashed on Monday killing 14 people and injuring 20 has been banned from running its Rangoon-to-Naypyidaw service, The New Light of Myanmar reports.

The state-run newspaper said Thursday that the Naypyidaw Road and Water Transport Board imposed the ban on Yazamin Bus Line because “the accident was caused by reckless driving and failure to systematically
supervise the safety of passengers.”

It said the families of the 14 dead would receive 4.5 million kyats, about US$4,500, in compensation because they were insured under the new Special Travel Insurance for highway travelers.

  1. Instead of taking responsibility for the numerous accidents since the construction of the worst highway in the world built by cronies, bus company became scapegoat. Not only transport minister but also entire government should resign so that people of Myanmar can travel safely. The greed of group of thugs makes the whole nation unsafe.

  2. Compensation amount for 14 is very low and human life is a lot worthier than that. Not only the Insurance Co., but the owner of the Yazamin must pay. The government must make him pay handsomely. He can afford it. He has a lot of properties. Otherwise, those guys would not take this seriously.

Yazamin has, I heard, good contact with authorities. He was once a sort of secretary of SLORC/SPDC of Mawlamyaing. I hope this ban would not retracted by the power of bribes. He might be now putting huge amount of money into envelopes for each important guys.
